IS ANYONE DRIVING THIS BUS…?
Produced by Jack Saunders in association with Davee Bryan

One of the ideas behind this project was to give tunes that have been performed live countless times acoustically on three continents… a whole new life. Most have appeared on Davee’s live solo bootleg “YA HAD TA BE THERE”, recorded at Houston’s last remaining old school live music venue, Anderson Fair (sorry late comers, out of print).

Otherwise, we wanted a few A&R folks and Publisher types to get some of these tunes into their hands.

For those of you logging on just to get a look, thanks for stopping by. For those of you logging on to look into lyrics or the story behind the songs, please continue clickin’ and pointin’ and stuff. It’s all here somewhere (the folks at Moon Star Creations told me so).

We have included 8 Davee originals, 2 co-writes and 1 actual cover. Wait, that’s just 11 tracks…oh yeah, the 2 short bottleneck instrumentals, well… We thought most folks we know would bitch and moan if there wasn’t any slide work to speak of, so in order to prepare the listener for the first couple of vocal tracks we cut loose with the 11/16ths socket on Jack’s lipsticked Dan-o’ through an S WAUGH Tweedee- wound out to set the mood. Thanks to Patrick Brennan for bringing the Oberhiem by to lay down the drone beneath the slide on those weather related titles.

One of Jack’s challenges was to turn a live player, one who bores easily, into a more disciplined, arrangement oriented studio musician. Another was to make the acoustically driven songs… even tho’ layered with a rhythm section, electric guitars and Riley’s keyboards still sound acoustically driven. The songs on this disc bear the mark of a full blown Davee performance.

It was a blast working with such a great crew. Drummer Rick Richards gave each of the tracks a life and identity all their own. Jack’s craft with studio arrangements and willingness to try something different here and there made the whole project come alive. To hear my own daughter Missy through the headphones doing vocals with her dad is too hard to describe. Coercing my old partner Chad Smalley into doing vocals was easier than I thought (thanks man). Riley’s day long session adding keys was a blast, and a lot more was done than just add a 'bit of glue' to some of the arrangements. To the above, and the rest of the gang…
